My Biography

Technology

I have over 25 years experience with computer technology and have been a heavy user and implementer of internet technologies for over 10 years. I am extremely well versed in the technologies of the social web including content management systems, blogging, rich media publishing, social networking and content aggregation which is also known as lifestreaming.

During my professional career I have worked as a systems analyst and programmer for a big five consulting firm. In that capacity I designed, coded and tested complex revenue systems for state and local governments. I have also had a hand in the functional design, testing, marketing and implementation of a leading energy industry software platform.

I am a prolific publisher and supporter of online media, currently managing several media-driven web communities. I was an early adopter of podcasting technologies and have distributed over 1.6 million media files in the last 5 years. I am the author of two free and self published new media guides: Beginners Guide to Podcasting and Beginners Guide to Drupal.

Leadership and Service

I am proud to have served as an enlisted person and officer in the United States Army. During my time in the U.S. Army I attended and successfully completed Infantry Basic Training, Airborne parachute training, Officer Candidate School, the Army Officer Basic Course and the Scout Platoon Leader Course. I served as an Armored Tank Platoon Leader and Tank Company Executive Officer in the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division in Germany.

Energy

For the past decade I have been involved with the development of electricity markets across North America as a consultant and market analyst. Your typical electric company isn't too keen about opening up to the social web. Thankfully things are changing in the industry as markets and utilities realize that opening up using web technologies can make a positive difference in their relationships with their customers. I hope to bring my passion and talent for the social web to bear in the electricity arena soon.

Open Source

I'm a very big advocate of (and very well versed in) certain open source web publishing technologies. I'm particularly a fan of WordPress and Drupal. I use both and think that they combine a strong feature set with fantastic value for a free product. Movable Type, which I also use, is very good as well. Open source technologies have created a huge amount of disruption in the technology space and rightfully so. If your organization is still paying license fees for web publishing systems you should consider an open source alternative.
